OSHA Specialist

We are seeking a part-time OSHA Specialist. This position offers a flexible work schedule! The OSHA Specialist position is responsible for creating policies and procedures that prevent harm to workers and property, inspecting machines and air quality, designing safe work spaces, and conducting training that meet industry standards and minimize job-related hazards.  Moderate day travel is expected for this position within a 60 mile radius of Cedar Falls/Waterloo.

Responsibilities:

  • Comprehend news and data regarding the economy, medical trends, court trends, compliance components and how those relate to risk for an organization.  Continually invest time in learning and studying insurance coverage knowledge, business acumen skills and risk management trends.  Develop and maintain an advanced understanding of health and safety related topics such as all OSHA standards and basic industrial hygiene.
  • Develop online training and storyboards for video training. Demonstrate hands-on operation training for clients, including but not limited to: forklifts, aerial lifts, boom lifts, bucket truck lifts, heavy equipment, skid loaders, jib hoists, overhead cranes, fabrication machines (i.e. press brakes, mechanical press brakes, lasers, bending machines, lathes, CNC machines, scaffolding and appropriate PPE). Conduct customized OSHA-related presentations for clients, incorporating technology, training aids, and materials.
  • Perform noise sampling and ambient air quality testing for various chemical and biological exposures using collection and lab equipment.  Conduct pre-calibration and post-calibration of data loggers and confined space 4 gas meters.  Conduct respirator fit testing, fall protection analysis and confined space testing.  Grant confined-space certifications upon completion of requirements.

  • Associate’s degree in occupational safety & health, industrial technology, environmental health and safety or related field or related work experience required.
  • Demonstrated experience with specialized equipment, including forklifts, aerial lifts, boom lifts, bucket truck lifts, heavy equipment, skid loaders, jib hoists, overhead cranes, fabrication machines (i.e. press brakes, mechanical press brakes, lasers, bending machines, lathes, CNC machines, scaffolding and appropriate PPE).
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite including Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Proficiency with database software, website navigation, photographic processing software and Corel XP Pro Video.
  • Experience with sample collection methodology and procedures.

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Obtainment and maintenance of OSHA outreach trainer and Certified Safety & Health Official (CSHO) designations.
