FYI COBRA

COBRA requires that a General COBRA Notice be sent to employees and spouses in writing when they first become covered by a group health plan. Department of Labor (DOL) guidance provides that the General COBRA Notice may be sent by regular first class mail, and further provides that one General COBRA Notice may be used to notify both the employee and the spouse, so long as they both become covered by the plan at the same time and so long as they have the same last know address on file with the employer. Otherwise, separate General COBRA Notices must be provided.
